Setup Instructions For Netscape Users |
| |
Your
browser must be configured to use proxy.actlink.net
as a proxy server.
Follow these steps to do this in Netscape:
Open
Netscape, and select Preferences
from the Edit
menu.
Expand
the Advanced
category by clicking the [+]
symbol. Then, select the sub-category Proxies.
|
 |
|
|
|
| Select
Manual
proxy configuration.
Press the View
button to open the configuration window.
For both HTTP
and Security
(may be HTTPS
in some versions), enter proxy.actlink.net
and port 80. |

Configuring E-Mail:
Identity |
|
If you are not already in Preferences, open Netscape and select Preferences
from the Edit
menu. Expand the Mail
& Newsgroups
category by clicking the [+]
symbol. Then select the
sub-category Identity.
Enter
your name in the Your
Name
field. You can enter your
name however you would like it to appear when you email people, and you
can use spaces to separate your first and last names.
This field is optional – if you would like only your email
address to appear you may leave this blank.
Enter
your email address in the Email
Address
field. This will be your
username along with an @familysmart.net.
Please note that there cannot be any spaces in your email address.
The
remaining fields are optional. For more information on these, please see your Netscape
documentation. |
 |
|
|
|
To
set the outgoing mail server:
In
the Outgoing
mail (SMTP) server
field enter mail.familysmart.net.
Enter your user name in the Outgoing
mail server user name
field. Your user name will be
the first part of your email address - that is, everything before the @
sign.

A note to customers with virtual domains (users whose e-mail goes to their
own domain located on our server)
If
you have an email address @actlink.net, this does not apply to you!
If
you have a virtual domain through our servers, then your email address is
something like me@mycompany.com where mycompany.com is
your virtual domain.
Your email server username must include this virtual domain!
In some email programs (such as Outlook) you could specify me@mycompany.com
as your username.
However, Netscape Mail strips anything after an @ sign (so
half of your user name would never reach the server!). Fortunately we can fool Netscape by using a % sign in place
of the @ sign. If you have a
virtual domain with ACTLink, enter your username as your email address,
but switching the % sign for the @ sign.
(ie. me@mycompany.com becomes me%mycompany.com)
This must be entered as your username for both incoming and
outgoing mail servers.
Eudora users should contact us for additional setup info.

| Configuring
E-Mail: Mail Servers -
Incoming |
To set the incoming mail server, click the Add
button. (Or the Edit button
if you already have our server in the list and want to edit the
properties).
Enter
mail.familysmart.net
in the Server
Name
field.
Select
POP3
Server
as the Server
Type.
Enter your user name in the User
Name
field. This should be the
same as specified in the Outgoing Mail Server setup.
Checking
Remember
Password
is a popular option. When
this is checked, Netscape will only prompt you once for your email
password. Otherwise, you will be prompted every time. |
 |
You
can also adjust how often Netscape checks for new mail.
If you don't have it checked automatically, you must click Get
Messages
to get your e-mail. |
|
Note
that Netscape only allows one (1) POP3 mail account per user.
To have multiple email accounts, you must use Netscape User Profiles.
|
|
Netscape
User Profiles (additional
email accounts)
We
noted before that Netscape only
allows one POP3 email account per user.
Using Netscape’s User Profile Manager, you can setup additional
Netscape users. (Note: this
feature may only be available in the Windows version.
On multi-user systems such as Unix you could just setup more user
accounts for your additional users, each could then have their own
separate email accounts, bookmarks, and cookies through Netscape.) |
|
To start
the Netscape User Profile Manager:
open your Start menu
go to Programs
select Netscape
Communicator menu
select Utilities
menu
then select User Profile Manager.
|
 |
|
To add a
profile:
click New
and follow the wizard (setup utility) by entering information when
prompted and then clicking Next.
You will be setting up the additional email accounts directly through this wizard.
Your incoming
mail server and outgoing mail server
is mail.familysmart.net.
The mail server type
is POP3.
Your username is as described earlier, but don’t forget to use
your additional username instead of the main one!
|
 |
| After you complete
the Profile Manager Wizard, a new profile will be available for you to
select “who you are” when you start Netscape.
To see for yourself, exit Netscape and start it again.
You should see a Profile Manager like this:
You're Finished ! |
